Beef Burgers with an Italian Twist recipe

Although these burgers sound fancy, they're really very simple and actually rather healthy. Lean steak mince combines with fresh basil, tomato puree, Parmesan cheese, garlic and black pepper to create a delicately flavoured burger perfect for serving in ciabatta buns with all the trimmings.

  • 600g lean steak mince
  • 4 tbsp. freshly chopped basil
  • 1 tbsp. tomato puree
  • 4 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Oil to fry

Method of Preparation:

  1. Mince the garlic clove.

  2. With your hands, mix together the beef, basil, tomato puree, cheese, garlic and black pepper until thoroughly combined.

  3. Shape four equal patties from the mixture and place on greaseproof paper. Put into the fridge for half an hour to firm up before cooking.

  4. Heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the burgers for around 5-10 minutes on each side until done to your liking. Serve in buns.

A great way to serve these burgers would be with some fresh mozzarella, dressed rocket leaves and sun-blushed tomatoes, although you can serve them however you like. This recipe serves four people.
