Simple Asian Beef Skewers recipe

This is a great recipe for dinner parties or get togethers as you can prepare everything the night before - all you need to do when people arrive is stick the skewers on the griddle pan and that's it! Beef marinates in a mixture of hoisin sauce, sherry and soy sauce and is then grilled to perfection. Serve with a spicy peanut sauce for extra flavour.

  • 700g skirt steak
  • 3 tbsp. hoisin sauce
  • 3 tbsp. sherry
  • 4 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. freshly chopped ginger
  • 2 spring onions
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Skewers

Method of Preparation:

  1. Slice the beef into 1/2cm slices along the grain. Shred the spring onions and finely slice the garlic cloves.

  2. Mix together the hoisin sauce, sherry, soy sauce, ginger, onions and garlic and pour into a resealable bag.

  3. Add the steak, seal the bag and place into the fridge overnight. When you are ready to serve, thread the steak onto prepared skewers, discarding the marinade.

  4. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side on a high grill and serve hot.

Combine 3 tbsp. smooth peanut butter with 2 tbsp. water, 1 tsp. dried chilli flakes, 1 tsp. garlic paste, 1 tsp. runny honey and 1 tsp. brown sugar for a simple spicy peanut sauce to serve with this tasty beef. This recipe serves six people.
